Cost of living and shopping
COST OF LIVING
The cost of living will vary according to individual needs and your life style.
Living in a rented apartment is somewhat more expensive than living in a dormitory, but has other advantages. Rent for a flat costs between 100-300 EUR/month, depending on the size and the city area. Additional expenses for utilities (heating, water, electricity, garbage disposal, telephone, cable TV and internet) range from 30 to 100 EUR, again, depending on the size of the apartment.
Food and beverages costs are about the same as in most EU countries. Local grocery stores (usually the smaller ones) can be more expensive, so for bigger shopping you are advised to go to bigger supermarkets such as Maxi, Tempo, Idea, Trnava promet, DIS market and Roda, since these offer considerably lower prices and special promotions.
If you are not into cooking, eating out is also a possibility. There are numerous restaurants, bakeries and cafés where you can eat for around 3-6 EUR or less. Most places will also offer a vegetarian menu, though meat dishes are quite dominant in the Serbian cuisine. In average you will need around 350-450 EUR to cover your basic living expenses (rent, food and living).
